What students say

Yoga with Kath
I have been attending Kath Gibbons’ yoga classes for over ten years. I came to her after
attending classes in Burnley since I retired in 2002 so I wasn’t a novice and had some
expectations of what I would find. Kath has always emphasised the non competitive side of
yoga – the postures, the pace and everything has to be right for you, the individual, and I
felt comfortable in her classes from the start.

I want to say that I shall be 83 in early March and put down a great deal of my good health
and fitness to yoga, and particularly to Kath’s yoga. The exercise side of the discipline is the
most important for me with its emphasis on core strength, flexibility and balance. Kath
works on aspects that her particular classes need, and adapts content appropriately,
explaining how different parts of the body work and influence each other. Since attending
her classes I have become much more aware of which each exercise strengthens which
muscles so that I am also able to practise in my own time the exercises I most need.

Yoga is not just about the body, however, and Kath gives equal weight to Pranayama or
breathing exercise which help you to relax and banish stress as well as concentrate and
focus rather than let your mind wander. Every yoga session ends with a period of relaxation.
Meditation has also become part of some classes and students are able to take part in this
or not, as each one wishes.

I look forward to Kath’s yoga sessions every week and feel part of the friendly group,
working together for the same or similar goals and having fun at the same time.

You are the reason I enjoy yoga, you understand we are not all perfect but we can achieve what we set out to achieve, which is mindfulness and calm. (CC)

I believe that I should articulate some of the appreciation I have for your yoga classes. I am really enjoying the classes…Not only am I enjoying the classes but I feel that they are doing me a lot of good…I feel that the sort of classes you do, concentrating a lot on the inner workings of the body and helping the students…I am 79 and still quite supple, have no difficulty bending down, getting up from the ground, climbing field gates and stiles in the countryside, and walking every day are in a large part due to yoga.
